2023 General Managers Conference
Blue Water recently held its annual 2023 General Managers Conference from January 30 – February 2 hosted at the Aloft Ocean City. General Managers and staff traveled from over 55 properties all over the country to join local Blue Water staff in Ocean City, Maryland for a week of training and inspirational leadership, camaraderie, and true to Blue Water tradition – epic fun. The Commander Hotel team treated our traveling guests to first-class Ocean City hospitality during their stay.
The conference kicked off with accounting sessions, license and permitting training, customer service training, and retail and hotel sessions, followed by team dinners at our favorite Ocean City establishments. Tuesday included HR sessions to support our continued growth. Following a cocktail hour and dinner at the Aloft, guest speaker Dan Thurmon treated the team to a show-stopping and thought-provoking session on finding balance in your day-to-day life. Session attendees were gifted an autographed copy of Dan’s book, Off Balance On Purpose, for further reflection.
Wednesday brought Fireside Chats with Blue Water leadership teams, sessions on Operations, IT, and best practices. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Blue Water get-together without some healthy competition, so the entire company headed to Southbound Alley for a championship Blue Water bowling night.
The final day of the 2023 General Managers Conference started off with coaching from HR and revenue generation sessions on support functions and budgeting processes, followed by round table discussions for general managers and staff to get to know every facet of their Blue Water support teams. Not to be outdone by the previous night's activities, Blue Water headed over to local favorite, Seacrets, for a final night of teambuilding and karaoke jams.
The 2023 General Managers Conference was an action-packed week of getting to know our properties and each other better, making time for learning and growth, and ensuring that we head into the 2023 season with the highest level of support for our teams from the top-down. Events like these are just another way that Blue Water invests in our most important assets – our people.
