Chief Financial Officer
Aside from its founders, no one is more familiar with Blue Water Development than Rafael Correa. With an entrepreneurial spirit that parallels the Burbages’ own, Rafael has played a pivotal part in writing the company’s history and outlining its future with every new project.
Rafael graduated summa cum laude from Salisbury University in 2003 with a bachelor degree in accounting, and he spent the first year of his career at KPMG in Baltimore. He returned to the Eastern Shore in 2005 as a sales/marketing manager for a poultry equipment automation company. Two years later, in 2007, he accepted a management role at MATECH Solutions, a Salisbury-based defense contractor. During this time, Rafael earned a master’s degree in business administration from his alma mater.
In 2012, Rafael joined Blue Water Development as its chief financial officer, the first member of its current leadership team. Since joining the Blue Water Development team, Rafael’s primary focus has been underwriting and finance for real estate development projects, originating and closing more than $100 million in construction and permanent debt financing. Rafael also plays an important role in strategic planning and day-to-day financial operations.
