Chesapeake Bay KOA wins RCRA's “Premier Recreation Operation Award for Unique Properties”

Kelsey Lehnerd, Recreation & Events Director at Blue Water’s Chesapeake Bay KOA in Cape Charles, Va., received the “Premier Recreation Operation Award for Unique Properties” on Nov. 10 at the Resort & Commercial Recreation Association (RCRA) Andy Holdnak Awards Gala.

The award recognizes recreation operations and departments that have displayed outstanding leadership in developing and promoting quality recreation programs and services.

Four years in operation, it is Blue Water’s mission to create exciting, adventurous guest experiences by valuing exceptional attention to guest satisfaction, innovation, and teamwork. The Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort and Sunset Beach Hotel & Beach Club’s recreation department strives to continually provide enjoyable recreation programs, outstanding facilities, a safe environment, and memorable vacation experiences for every guest and staff member.

The recreation team works with various organizations to host events that benefit local charities. One of its most significant events is Roar at the Shore, with proceeds benefitting The Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughter.

They also partner with the Ability Center of Virginia on the Brew N’ Que & Oysters fundraiser. 

RCRA is committed to providing and promoting professional development, creative resources, and networking for professionals, students, educators, vendors, and all others dedicated to delivering services in the recreation Industry. RCRA is dedicated to serving as a leader in the recreation industry with its primary goal to encourage collaboration and networking among the membership through an annual national conference, regional workshops, newsletters, a resourceful and informative website, and through other creative initiatives.
