Jack Burbage Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by The Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce
OCEAN CITY, Md. (September 13, 2017) – Jack Burbage, Blue Water Development President and Founder, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 Ocean City Chamber Annual Awards Celebration on September 12th.
The award is only bestowed when earned, and is defined by the OC Chamber as recognizing an individual for a lifetime of consistent community leadership and philanthropic endeavors that have made a lasting impact on their community. “Community support and philanthropy are at the root of my father’s identity,” said Todd Burbage, Jack’s son and co-owner of Blue Water. “Whether it’s choosing local contractors and materials for each project, or volunteering for numerous boards and fundraisers, he has always put his community first. We are all immensely proud of him and for the example he has set for his children and grandchildren.”
A stalwart in his community, Burbage received the 2015 Hal Glick Distinguished Service Award from Salisbury University’s Perdue School of Business for extraordinary philanthropy. The Berlin, Md., native has served on the Board of Directors for Taylor Bank and homeless shelter Diakonia, and has been a long-time member of the Atlantic General Hospital Board of Trustees. He co-chairs the Atlantic General Campaign for the Future, which is constructing a regional cancer care center on the hospital’s Berlin campus named in his honor.
While involved in numerous public endeavors, Burbage makes many contributions quietly behind the scenes. He has single-handedly put people through school, offered scholarships and even bought a few cars so students could get to classes. “I prefer to be in the background, and I’ve always said I get more out of it than I give,” Burbage said. “I think life is all about how much good you do and how you try to help others. I’ve never thought about it in the context of an achievement, so I’m truly blown away by this tremendous honor.”
