Drifting Sands Hotel Launches Statewide Osprey Naming Contest to Commemorate New Mural, Support Conservation Efforts

Ship Bottom, Nj. (September 5, 2019) – Drifting Sands Hotel has announced a statewide contest to name the new osprey adorning the hotel’s north efficiency wall. The two-story mural was installed this summer to recognize and raise awareness of the New Jersey Osprey Project, an ongoing osprey conservation effort led by Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey (CWF).

To participate, New Jersey residents may submit one entry per person via the hotel’s Facebook page or directly through Gleam until September 26, 2019. The winning name will be announced on October 1, 2019 via Facebook Live and chosen by the mural artist, Evan Lovett, a South Jersey native and creative director of Philadelphia-based nonprofit Visual Urban Renewal & Transformation (VURT). The winning name will be displayed on a commemorative plaque next to the mural.

The winner will receive a complimentary two-night stay at Drifting Sands for up to four guests for the 2020 season. The winning prize is non-transferrable and must be claimed within seven days of announcement. Reservations must be booked by March 1, 2020.

“We have always been committed to protecting the environment and helping our community connect with it, so we’re proud to help promote the conservation of one of the East Coast’s most iconic birds through this amazing piece of artwork,” said Jack Burbage, co-owner of Blue Water Development, which owns and operates Drifting Sands. “We know the mural will generate a great deal of attention and support for the New Jersey Osprey Project, and we are excited to christen our special osprey with a name chosen by a New Jersey resident.”
